I have recently reviewed two books for Prism Literary Magazine. They were my first books reviews, ever, other than what I do here on my blog. I love reading, as many of you know, and getting the chance to put into coherent thought why I like a book and what intrigues me about a book, was wonderful. The books were chosen for me and were totally in my wheel house, interest wise. The first was Faerie by Eisha Marjara and the second was Birdie by Tracy Lindberg.
Faerieis a young adult book that deals with anorexia and seriously doesn't flinch back from the details, I enjoyed this book and you can read my review here.
I have to say that Birdie has been the best book I've read this year. It's about a Cree woman who is dealing with profound loss and comes to the point of ceremony and healing. You can read my review hereto find out all the reasons why I loved it.
I hope to do more reviews in the future and if I can't find a magazine or journal to post them then I shall just put them here, although having an editor to look things over first is nice, I tend to lean towards slightly incoherent on my own.
Objectively yours,
FRan
